Latest EU policy developments: CSA and Internet
Dear Internet community,
Please join us this Tuesday 19 July at 13:30 CET DST (11:30 UTC) for an informative discussion regarding the latest European Commissions’ proposals on CSA and on Internet infrastructure “cost sharing”.
The discussion will be led by our Senior Director of European Government and Regulatory Affairs, David Frautschy, based in Brussels.
About “Cost sharing”: Advanced by telco organisations that want Over the Top (OTT) service providers to contribute to Internet infrastructure deployments, the impact from this legislation – depending on its content – on the Internet may be considerable and have undesirable effects.
About CSA: The European Commission has published a proposal for a Regulation laying down rules to prevent and combat child sexual abuse (CSA Proposal). This Proposal seeks to increase child safety online by imposing new obligations on the providers of online communication services, including an obligation to screen private communications to detect instances of child sexual abuse. We have detected threats to encryption on the requirements to service providers.
We wish to explain these issues with you, share the engagements the Internet Society has made so far, and provide the most current information we have with you. Arming you with the facts, you will be able to participate in the debate at your local level.
