Internet scams
A new legal scam on the Internet is becoming more and more popular, making more and more victims. You post or repost a tweet with a photo, or write a blog article with a free photo, or promote some post through social media? Then you are at risk! A renowned University got a lawsuit asking to pay $150.000 just for the reuse of a ‘free’ picture in a tweet.
Other examples of scams are fake e-commerce sites, most of the time temporary e-commerce website where you can pay and never receive your products or services nor your money back. Be careful!
Even Public Government – Justice Department – of a European Country was also victim of Internet scam, showing it’s sometimes not easy to distinguish the truth from the false.
How to protect yourself and others
That’s why Internet Society Belgium is launching a big initiative to build trust on the Internet, in the context of our Internet Self-Defence project. In this VINET session, first of a series, you’ll learn the basics on how to protect you and others, and we will explain how some Internet scams are built. Really amazing! You’ll be also able to raise your questions, and if you were victim of a scam, don’t hesitate to send your story to us.
Note
